Specific course information

The purpose of this course is to present the fundamentals needed for the formulation, planning and management of research and development programs and projects in Engineering, by use of research methodologies, documentation techniques and the formal schemes for the planning of those programs and projects.

Specific goals of the course

Learning objectives:
  • To understand the scope of the research activity.To identify the problems of research in engineering.
  • To identify the scope, the general structure and features of a research project in engineering.
  • To apply and use the methods, procedures, protocols, tools and research activities to solve engineering problems.
  • To identify, classify and weight the resources needed by a research project.
  • To establish alternatives for the scheduling of the research project.
  • To identify the relationship between research and innovation.

  • The concept of science, the structure of natural sciences, engineering and technology, the concept of scientific discipline, technologies and techniques; the scientific solution of problems; types of research methodologies.
  • Research planning, statement of a research program. The National System of Science and Technology in Colombia.
  • The formulation of research projects; identification of subjects, problems and objectives.
  • The planning of research projects, methodology of the projects and their implementation. Planning of the bibliography search. Design of the contents of the research project.
  • Control and evaluation of the research project. Partial and final reports. Criteria for the evaluation of research projects.
